The Malta Financial Services Authority known as MFSA is a regulator for financial services in Malta. It was formed in 2002 and is a fully autonomous public institution and reports to Parliament on an annual basis. Malta Financial Services Authority manages also the Registry of Companies and has been appointed as the Listing Authority. The company headquarters are at Notabile Road BKR3000 Attard Malta.
MFSA has a good relationship with OECD, EU and the Commonwealth in modeling global regulatory policy. Also MFSA is a part of the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
MFSA has a staff of 234 people from specialist regulators, lawyers, accountants and support staff. The Board of Governors of the Authority is appointed by the Prime Minister in virtue of article 6 of The Malta Financial Services Authority Act. As main responsibility MFSA has to take care of consumer education and protection in financial sector.
